Hour Bank Eligibility Rules Excluding Dental Expense Benefits
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 104,
If you work for an employer that contributes an hourly rate on your behalf to Northwest Administrators Metal Crafts Trust, the information below might help answer questions you have regarding eligibility.
If you do, here’s what it will take for you to be eligible for Health Benefits.
If you have never had health benefits under NW Metal Crafts Trust or it has been more than 6 months since you last had benefits under NW Metal Crafts Trust, you will gain your first months of eligibility two months after you worked your 160th hour.
Example: if you work your 160th hour in January you will have benefits effective March 1st. Once you become eligible it takes 140 hours each month to keep your benefits intact. Any hours you work above and beyond the 140 hours in a month will go into an Hour Bank, which you will be able to draw from when you are laid off to keep your benefits intact. If you don’t work 140 or more hours in a month but you have hours in your Hour Bank the Trust will pull hours from you Hour Bank to give you the 140 hours needed for a month’s benefits. The Trust will continue to do this until you don’t have enough hours in your Hour Bank to get a month’s worth of benefits. Once your benefits run out the Trust will send you a Cobra Notice informing you that your benefits have run out and you will then have the opportunity to pay for your own benefits for up to 18 months or until you return to work and regain your eligibility, whichever comes first.
