The Seattle Parks Planning, Development and Maintenance Division is seeking qualified candidates to fill a current Metal Fabricator vacancy. Our division maintains more than 25 miles of boulevards and various facilities, including 26 community centers, 8 indoor swimming pools, 2 outdoor (summer) swimming pools, 4 environmental education centers, 2 small craft centers, an outdoor stadium, and much more.

The Metal Fabricator position is a journey level member of a crew that is directly responsible for repair, maintenance, fabrication and installation of safety handrails, signs, diving boards, lifeguard chairs, pool ADA lifts, fencing and gates, soccer goals, basketball hoops and a myriad of other Parks Department assets. This position reports to the Metal Fabricator Crew Chief.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fabricate and repair brackets, frames, pump installations, tanks, panels, tools, shafts and other related mechanical equipment.
  • Weld material using arc, carbon arc, metallic inert gas, tungsten inert gas and oxygen acetylene processes on a variety of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • Shape, punch, drill and secure metal parts, cages, steel decks, trusses, machinery foundations, brackets, hand, and guardrails.
  • Work at heights, over water on docks, or in a boat repairing floats and piers
  • Prepare preliminary cost estimates of material and labor for specific tasks. 
  • Interpret drawings and specifications to lay out work, mark dimensions, angles and cutouts on metal plates and pipe. 
  • Design lay outs and fabrications for a variety of sheet metal ducts, guards, gates, doors and flashings for items such as heating/ventilation/air conditioning systems, machinery, cages, buildings and roofs. 
  • Coordinate work activities with other skilled trade shops. 
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires a journey-level status in structural iron, sheet metal or metal fabrication, lay outs, repair, welding or burning or four years as a metal trades helper under a metal trades journey worker (or a combination of education and/or apprentice training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class)
